SP, Congress to celebrate 75th year of I-Day

Lucknow: A host of opposition parties are planning to celebrate the 75th year of India’s Independence across the country. At a time when the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party plans to launch Har Ghar Tiranga from August 13 to August 15 when the country got independence, the Samajwadi Party led by Akhilesh Yadav and its ally Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) and the Congress have decided to celebrate the occasion from August 9. The day is remembered as August Kranti when Mahatma Gandhi launched the Quit India Movement in 1942.

The SP leadership has asked the party workers to hoist the national flag over their rooftops from August 9 to August 19. An ally of the SP, RLD has also decided to take part in the event in a big way. According to state president of the party Ramsheesh Rai, they will celebrate the occasion and remember the freedom fighters. Similarly, the Congress will take out Prabhat Pheris (morning processions) from August 9 to August 15. According to UPCC secretary Dwijendra Tripathi, the All IndiaCongress Committee (AICC) is chalking out a plan to celebrate the occasion.
