1) Gur Poha (also called Vellam Avil):
You need to take one cup of Gur and keep it aside. Take 2-3 elaichis and powder it and keep aside. Take one glass of Poha and wash it with water and keep it aside. Now take a kadai and put 1/2 glass of water and put the Gur in the kadai. On the Gas and keep the gas flame low or medium. Let the Gur become soft and in liquid form. Now add elaichi powder and add the washed Poha in the Kadai. Now stir well till you find that the Gur and Poha have been combined well. Let the Poha cook for at least 5 to 10 minutes. You can keep the kadai closed for some time in low medium flame. Stir the Gur Poha well and it is ready for you to offer as prasad to Lord Krishna and have them with your family members after Deeparadhana. In South India, the dish is called Vellam Avil, and is believed that Lord Krishna loves this dish a lot.

2) Gur Poli or Boli or Puranpoli:
Called by different names and prepared in different ways in various parts of the country, Gur Poli is also one of the sweet items that you can prepare for this Krishna Janmashtami. All you need is One glass of gur to be kept aside. Soak One glass of Chana Dal for 2 hours or more in water. Put 5 big spoons of maida and one spoon of wheat aata and add coconut oil, one pinch of haldi, one glass of water and mix it like a dough and keep it aside. Keep aside mixed aata for two hours. Then after a few hours, in a mixer, add gur and soaked chana dal without water and also add two or three elaichi (without skin) and grind it. Same way, take a leaf and make small rounds out of the maida and wheat dough. In the small rounds, add the grinded gur and chana dal mix. Now use your hands to make the rounds like a chapati or poli. Keep the tawa in low or medium flame and add the poli to it. Take it out from the tawa after it is cooked well. Now you can keep the puranpoli or boli for neivedya to Lord.
3) Poha kheer (avil payasam):
Take 1/2 glass or 1 glass of poha and put it in kadai. Add one spoon of ghee and fry the poha until it changes its color. Now take 1/2 or 1 litre of milk and boil it. Make sure that the boiled milk reduces so that means the milk has thickened enough. Put one glass of sugar in it. Then take kaju badam 4 pieces each and grind it in mixer with little water added to it. You can put this grinded kaju badam paste in the thickened milk. As the milk thickens more, you can add the poha that you have fried and allow it to boil more. Your Poha kheer is ready.
