Swami Chinmayanand acquitted in rape case, court says no allegations proved

Lucknow: Former Union minister and BJP leader Swami Chinmayanand acquitted of rape charges, a special court in Uttar Pradesh said that the prosecution could not prove the charges.

The court acquitted the law student and other co-accused Sanjay Singh, DPS Rathore, Vikram Singh, Sachin Singh, and Ajit Singh on charges of extorting money from the BJP leader. At the time of delivering the verdict, Chinmayanand and other accused persons were present in the court.

Chinmayananda was arrested on 20 September last year. He runs the Trust Shahjahanpur Law College. The victim was studying in the same college. He was allegedly raped by Chinmayananda. The 23-year-old Law student had posted a video clip alleging sexual harassment on social media, after she was not traced for a few days in August last year, following which the top court intervened in the case.
