Use hate speech as evidence says rights groups

Social media networks should not only remove hate speech from their platforms but also keep that in their archives.

The idea is to use the hate speech and illegal posts as proof in law complaints, said Human Rights Watch.

The New York-based rights group showed how social platforms were being responsible and reactive in order to remove content that is not relevant and abusive in nature.

However, the group said that such content should be removed plus maintained elsewhere to serve as a proof against the subsequent prosecution of individuals, which also includes war criminals.

Such content should be made available by the social media platforms when they are asked by investigators, civil society organisations, journalists and academics to identify and punish severe crimes.
