New Delhi: The number of deaths due to chemical gas leakage in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh is increasing continuously. So far 13 people have died, including a child. Director General of Police Gautam Sawang said that Chief Minister Y.S. s. Jagan Mohan Reddy has ordered an inquiry into the incident. He reviewed the situation at a high level meeting. The DGP said that gas leakage is not happening in the plant now and the situation is under control. 1000 people are expected to be sick due to gas leakage. After the accident, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team has reached the spot and has started rescue work.
After the CM meeting, the DGP said that the condition of at least 246 people is much worse. He is being treated at the King George Hospital in Visakhapatnam. 20 patients are placed on ventilators. At least 800 people have been evacuated from RR Venkatapuram village. The DGP said that an investigation is being conducted into how the gas leakage occurred. Why the neutralizer was not working in the plant. This could have prevented gas leakage. The DGP said that although this gas is not poisonous, excessive gas through the breath becomes fatal in the body.
NDRF Director General S. N. Pradhan said that the special gas leakage team of NDRF has reached the spot. The team members are investigating those who are suffering due to gas leakage. Styrene wiper gas leaked from the plant. This gas adversely affects the main nervous system, throat, skin, eyes and some parts of the body.
Gas leakage has occurred within a radius of about three kilometers, so the number of sick and dead is also expected to increase. About 200 people were hospitalized. According to District Medical and Health Officer Tirupati Rao, gas leakage has occurred in the plant at RR Venkatapuram village of LG Polymer Industry. This accident happened due to some malfunction in the plant in the early morning. Two people died due to a fall in the well when people were running around to escape after gas leakage.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y. s. Jagan Mohan Reddy is keeping an eye on the accident. He directed the officers of the district administration to take necessary steps to bring the situation under control. The Chief Minister is going to visit the King George Hospital in Visakhapatnam, where sick people are being treated.
