According to reports, Shanghai, China’s largest metropolis and a global financial centre, will extend a new driverless and longest metro line on Thursday. With the addition of new metro lines, Shanghai’s metro network will now exceed 831 kilometres, making it the world’s longest.

Aside from breaking a new record for the world’s largest metro network, the city will add two fully automated metro lines, bringing the total number of fully automated metro lines in the city to five. The fully automated lines will add 167 kilometres to the city’s metro network’s entire length.
The city now has 20 metro lines with 508 stations, thanks to the recent addition of metro lines. The new line would connect a number of prominent Shanghai locations, including Jiading, Putuo, Jing’an, Huangpu districts, and Pudong New, according to the metro official.

Apart from connecting some of the city’s most important locations, the new metro station will also allow convenient access to the city’s most well-known tourist sites and landmarks, such as Jing’an Temple and Lujiazui.
