The life of a BEST worker is quite challenging as they slog quite physically to take us from one place to another without having a break or lockdown when the world asks common people to stay at home during the pandemic times. In a recent bad development, almost 66 workers of the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) have got positive results for the COVID-19 disease in Mumbai in the last week.

Out of the 66 workers, 44 people are presently in the hospitals as they have to go through treatment and 9 workers have been discharged from the hospital. The chief medical officer Dr. Anil Kumar Singal of BEST has shared how the workers who are currently in the hospital have mild symptoms and none of them are in oxygen support. Dr. Singal added that the workers are admitted so that it serves as a precaution for themselves as well others need to get the infection from them.

The bus workers mainly include conductors and drivers. On Tuesday, Mumbai reported 10,606 new cases adding the total tally to 8,16,965. The statewide COVID-19 tally has been more than 12,000 cases with about 18,466 new cases of infections that have been recorded during the day. New 75 cases of the Omicron variant have been reported and 40 have been from Mumbai.

As per the information from the Union health ministry, the state of Maharashtra ranks the top contributor for Omicron in India. The nationwide tally has reached 2,135 cases.

Due to the Omicron outbreak, there has been a huge spread of coronavirus cases in the state. The government of Maharashtra has thus announced fresh restrictions last week including limiting people at weddings, funerals, and other events. Also, section 144 has been imposed in Mumbai for 2 more days. Self-isolation is the best way to curb the spread of the virus if detected with mild symptoms.
