Thiruvananthapuram: Eight new cases were detected in Kerala, making it one of the most severely hit states in the country. In one of the most recent cases, parents of a three-year-old boy, who tested positive for COVID-19, were detected with coronavirus. The family got infected after returning from Italy. Earlier on Tuesday, six other people, who are friends of a couple and their son, who returned from Italy, were tested positive for coronavirus.
“The three returnees from Italy had visited three districts including Kottayam. We are trying our best in mapping the areas that they visited and who came in direct contact and remote contact with the three people,” Kerala health minister KK Shailaja told reporters on Tuesday.
According to agency reports, 1,495 people have been kept under observation–1236 under home quarantine and 259 in isolation wards in various hospitals in the state. All the schools from class I to VII have been closed in light of the scare and are likely to remain closed till March 31.
