More than a thousand employees were fired from Tirupati Balaji temple

New Delhi: Corona crisis and lockdown have also hit temples. 1300 employees have recently been fired from the Tirupati Balaji temple of Lord Venkateswara in Andhra Pradesh.

In the country’s richest temple, all these staff were involved in contractual services related to sanitation and hospitality. All of them were asked not to come on duty from May 1, 2020 due to lack of work in the midst of a nationwide lockdown.

The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) Board, the trust that manages the temple of Lord Venkateswara situated on the hills, did not extend the contract for all these employees, which ended on 30 April 2020.

In some media reports quoting Temple Trust President YV Subba Reddy, it was reported that the company providing staff had informed that its services would be discontinued. However, Reddy has assured (at his level) to look into the matter on humanitarian grounds.
