Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said that the centre has put lot of emphasis on developing the water transport connectivity from Northeast with neighbouring countries including Bangladesh.
While addressing a huge gathering at historic Jerenga Pathar, in Sivsagar in Assam, Mr Modi said, “Assam and Northeast is widening our connect with the eastern Asian countries under the Act East Policy.”
Stating that Assam is developing as a major part of Aatma Nirbhar Bharat with better infrastructure, the PM added, “The fast-paced development of Assam is very important to us. The way to ‘Atmanirbhar Assam’ is through ‘Atmavishwaas’ (self-confidence) among the people here.
Taking part in the distribution of land patta (land allotment certificate) to over 1 lakh indigenous people of Assam during a programme at Jerenga Pathar in Sivasagar district, Mr Modi said before the BJP came to power in Assam, there was 6 lakh of people in the state who had no land patta.
The Prime Minister said, “Land patta for the people of the citizens of the state was not a priority for the previous governments in Assam.” Patting the back of Sonowal led BJP government in Assam, Mr Modi said the way Assam handled the Covid 19 pandemic is praiseworthy. He also assured the people of Assam that double engine government of state and centre is working in tandem to provide running water to all households in the state. It helped a lot of people during the lockdown,” Mr Modi claimed.
