Hollywood star Will Smith will be working in the lead role in the upcoming slavery thriller titled Emancipation. The film is set to be directed by Antoine Fuqua and written by William N Collage.
The period film is reportedly a real-life story of a slave named Peter who had received a brutal whipping while on Louisiana plantation, which was owned by John and Bridget Lyons.
However, Peter managed to run away from his job and join the Union Army. When the doctors saw his scars, they took photos and one of which was published by The Independent in May 1863.
Later, the photo got widely circulated and made everyone know how cruel it is to work as a slave in America.
Smith will also be co-producing the film with Westbrook Studios partners. Earlier, Smith had worked on a similar role in Quentin Tarantino’s “Django Unchained”.
