Police Bust GMAT Scam from Pune

Pune police have busted a ring and arrested a technician who manipulated the GMAT test for foreign MBA programmes. The suspect has been identified as Abhay Mishra, a native of Jamshedpur, Jharkhand. In this case, a Pune-based MBA student filed a first information report (FIR) with the Cyber Police Station.

The offender used the Instagram account “GMAT GRE SHORTCUT,” according to the police. According to a police statement, the complainant learned that the accused assisted pupils in scoring well on the GMAT admission exam.

After then, the complainant and the accused agreed. According to police, the accused took the GMAT exam on behalf of the complainant by remotely accessing his computer and utilising programmes such as AnyDesk, DWService, and WeTransfer. When the complainant received a GMAT score of 770 out of 800, the accused began contacting him frequently and demanding Rs 4 lakh.

The former, on the other hand, refused to pay and understood that it was a con. The police charged the accused under Sections 419 and 420 of the Indian Penal Code and several sections of the Information Technology Act based on his allegation.

The accused’s Instagram account, bank account, mobile number, and AnyDesk user ID were all subjected to a technical examination by cops. The police squad travelled to Jamshedpur and detained Mishra, bringing him to Pune based on the clues. He also had a laptop, a cell phone, four pen drives, four debit cards, and other items confiscated by cops. Mishra was ordered to be held in police custody till October 22 by a Pune court.
