On Saturday, police said they had detained a Nihang Sikh, Sarvjit Singh, in the case of a 35-year-old man who was brutally killed and hung up at a farmers’ protest site near the Singhu border. According to police, Singh was apprehended after surrendering to officers on Friday night for his suspected participation in the lynching. According to police sources, Singh landed at the Singhu border in the first week of December last year with a troop of Nihang Sikhs. He was the commander of a detachment that looked after the horses on the border.

“One Nihang Sikh has been brought into jail,” stated Jashandeep Singh Randhawa, Sonepat’s superintendent of police. Later in the day, he will be brought before the court. We’re looking into his involvement in the murder. The report of a sacred book being desecrated near the Singhu border has yet to be verified. It’s a subject that has to be looked into.”
Sarvjit Singh claimed responsibility for the purported murder of Lakhbir Singh in numerous videos released on Friday night, saying that he had defiled the sacred book. According to the police, a preliminary investigation revealed that Nihangs assassinated Dalit Sikh Lakhbir Singh of Cheema Kalan village in Tarn Taran, Punjab.
On Friday, police filed an FIR charging unknown individuals with murder and common purpose. According to police, at 5 a.m. on Friday, they got information that Nihangs had hung and tied a guy to a barrier, and his hand had been cut off. The victim had been deceased by the time the cops arrived. Initially, the Nihang Sikhs and protestors refused to hand over the corpse to the cops.

The injured guy was allegedly shown laying in a pool of blood with one arm tied to a rope and his cut off left hand close to his face in numerous recordings of the gruesome lynching, while other men hovered over him and questioned him about his identification. He was seen tied upside down with blood oozing from his severed hand in one of the recordings. He may be seen begging demonstrators to let him go free.
