Former Bahujan Samaj Party MLA Yogendra Sagar was sentenced to life imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 30,000 by the MP/MLA court on Saturday in the famous Bilsi incident of Badaun district. Yogendra Sagar’s son is now an MLA from the Bharatiya Janata Party. Yogendra Sagar was a BSP MLA, and in 2008 he was accused of raping and kidnapping a graduate student. After that, the police had investigated after registering the case. At the time when this incident took place, the BSP was under the rule. Yogendra Sagar was also the BSP MLA from Bilsi.

The investigation, in this case, gained momentum after the withdrawal of the BSP rule and Yogendra Sagar, along with the other two accused Tejendra Sagar and Meenu Sharma was already sentenced to life imprisonment. In addition, former MLA Yogendra Sagar was sentenced after 13 years to kidnapping and gang rape of Bilsi’s student on 23 April 2008.
MP court hearing was held against Yogendra Sagar on Saturday. After the hearing, Additional Sessions Judge Akhilesh Kumar of MP-MLA Court sentenced Yogendra Sagar to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of 30 thousand rupees. In the afternoon itself, the court convicted the former MLA and sentenced him around three o’clock. In this case, the victim girl has got married and settled her house.
After the High Court rejected the bail granted by the lower court, now the legal screws have been tightened on the former MLA. The reason is that the High Court itself, in its decision, has rejected his bail given earlier, so he cannot challenge this decision in the High Court. So the only option they have now is the Supreme Court, where they will have to go through many judicial processes to reach.

Now hearing of MPs, MLAs is done in the High Court itself, in cases related to sexual abuse where the MLAs or MPs are accused, then such cases are heard in the Allahabad High Court only. So, for this reason, this matter also reached the High Court.
