Washington: The World Bank announced a $ 12 billion aid package to help various countries deal with outbreaks of coronovirus.

World Bank President David Malpas told reporters, “The aim is to provide fast effective assistance to the needy countries.” He said that in the struggle to stop the spread of the Covid-19 virus, it is necessary to recognize the additional burden on poor countries which have less means to fight it.

The World Bank said in a statement that the money is specifically for the poorest countries in the world and can be used for medical equipment or health services and includes expertise and policy advice. More than 3,000 people worldwide have died and more than 90,000 people have been infected by the Corona virus that surfaced in China in December.

Malpas said that this assistance would be given to those countries who would request for help. The bank is in contact with several member countries, but did not mention any specific country, which will be the first to be supported. He said, “The main thing is to move fast. Speed is necessary to save lives. “
