Maharashtra BJP Head Expresses Regret Over Revoking Farm Bills, Calls it a Loss for Hardworking Farmers

On Saturday, state BJP head Chandrakant Patil stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had no choice but to remove the three agriculture laws since he had no other option. Patil went on to say that such a move would be bad for farmers. “We still feel farm laws are vital,” Patil added. These laws were crafted with farmers’ interests in mind. Farmers would have prospered if the agricultural rules had been implemented.

“However, these rules were met with opposition by a tiny number of farmers in Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh. Unfortunately, the farmers could not be persuaded. We were unable to persuade the demonstrators of the importance of the agriculture legislation. The circumstances also demonstrate how a single group affected a national choice. These protests continued despite court judgments,” the BJP leader stated.

“The majority of farmers did not support these agitations,” Patil concluded. Farmers had the flexibility to sell their harvests outside of APMC marketplaces under the agricultural regulations. They could sell their harvests anywhere they wanted and still make a profit. Contract farming was allowed under the legislation, which would have helped farmers financially and made farming more sustainable. While some are ecstatic, the majority of farmers will suffer as a result of the PM’s declaration.”
