New Delhi: If you donate in building Ram temple, then it can be used to tax exemption. The government has announced tax exemption in the financial year 2020-21 on donation to Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust. This trust has been formed on the order of the Supreme Court for the construction of Ram temple in Ayodhya.

The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) on Friday issued a notification stating that donations under section 80G will be exempt from tax as the trust is building a place of historical importance.

The exemption under section 80G can be availed only when the trust is registered. If a trust is not registered, then donating to it will not benefit tax exemption.

Under section 80G, the maximum benefit of tax deduction on donation can be 10% of the total income. Understand in simple terms, if the total income of someone is 10 lakh, then you can avail the tax exemption on the maximum amount of Rs 1 lakh by donating under 80G.

You will get tax benefits only if you make a donation check or demand draft. A maximum of Rs 2000 can be deposited in cash.

The name of the trust, PAN number, address and amount will have to be filled in while filing the return.

Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust has 15 members. Nritya Gopal Das was elected president and Champat Rai was elected general secretary after the first meeting of the members. Swami Devagiri is treasury. The official logo was also released on 8 April by the trust.
