PM Modi to be honored as chief guest at IIT Delhi’s 51st convocation ceremony

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been chosen as the chief guest at the 51st convocation ceremony of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi on Saturday.

In the ceremony, 2019 graduating students will be provided with degrees.

At an online press conference, IIT Delhi Director V Ramgopal Rao announced the news that Modi will sharing his address to the students on 7 November from a video conference.

The convocation will be held with limited number of guests in the institute’s Dogra Hall and also a webcast will be done virtually to reach out to all the students who are graduating in 2019’s academic sesion.

The institute will award President’s Gold Medal, Director’s Gold Medal, Dr Shankar Dayal Sharma (former President of India) Gold Medal, Perfect Ten Gold Medals and Institute Silver Medals to the graduating students at the function.

Nowadays, most of the convocation ceremonies are being held online as part of the new normal that has been initiated to curb the spread of coronavirus and also follow social distancing.
