Today on 9th May 2022, Maharana Pratap Jayanti is observed. For those who are unaware, Maharana Pratap was a renowned Hind Rajput Jing from Mewar. He was honored for his courage, bravery, and contribution to 

Battle of Haldighati and Battle of Dewair. Being the 13th King of Mewar, Maharana Pratap has been a symbol of heroism and high respect, especially in Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh.

In several states, Maharana Pratap Jayanti is observed. However, it is a public holiday for states in Himachal Pradesh and Rajasthan. In order to mark his birth anniversary, these two states come up with several events and activities. Maharana Pratap was born in 1540 on 9th May in a Hindu Rajput family. He is celebrated all over the country for his heroism, fearlessness, and valor. As per a report, Maharana Pratap passed away at the age of 56 on 19th January 1597 in an accident at Chavand.

Maharana Pratap was wedded to Ajabde Punwar of Bijolia. He was also married to 10 other women and had 17 children, which also included Amar Singh I. People acknowledged him as ‘Mewari Rana’ and he was recognized for the military resistance that he took against the expansion activities of the Mughal Empire. He fought the Haldighati Battle on 18th June 1576 and it is said that Maharana ji had a javelin with a weight of 81 kg and 72 kg of armor on his chest.

Maharana Pratap is a famous personality in both modern and folk Rajasthani culture. Also, to mark respect for his work for the country, a statue was unveiled of Maharana Pratap at the Parliament of India in 2007. Several artists, poets, writers, and artisans got shelter at the court of Maharana Pratap at Chanvand.

Despite having enemies, he never got afraid and kept on fighting for what was right for his people. He also believed that only brave people have to tackle their enemies which he rightfully did.
