Uttar PradeshSP legislators raise din in UP House over, Azam Khan, question hour...

Date:

Lucknow: The UP House witnessed a din during the question hour on Wednesday when the leaders of the Samajwadi Party (SP) created a ruckus, saying a senior law-maker of the party Azam Khan had been implicated in false cases. Ninety cases have been filed against Khan who was freed from Sitapur earlier this year after an interim bail was granted to him by the Supreme Court.

On Tuesday, another case was registered against him for allegedly stealing books and a cleaning machine. The books were kept in the Ali Jauhar University run by a trust headed by Khan, sources said.

The SP legislators accused the government of harassing the opposition members by registering false cases and demanded a discussion on the issue and adjournment of the House. Dismissing the charges, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna said the government would do justice.

No sooner had the proceedings started at 11am than the SP legislators protested against the government for taking action against Khan and his family members on the grounds of fake cases.

Leader of opposition Akhilesh Yadav said Khan was harassed. Speaker Satish Mahana tried to convince Yadav saying that the issue would be taken up after the question hour. Chairman of the Legislative Council Kunwar Manvendra told the SP law-makers that the issue could not be raised during the question hour.

Nevertheless, that failed to stop the SP members. Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya said disrupting the question hour is against the spirit of the house.

Reacting to this, the SP members reached the middle of the House which was adjourned till 11:30. As soon as the House resumed, the SP legislators stuck to their guns and raised slogans against the government. The House was again adjourned till 12 noon.

SP legislator Mata Prasad Pandey raised the issue and demanded that House proceedings should be stopped and discussions held, because Khan was falsely implicated and put behind bars for over two years. Khan is not a criminal, Pandey further said. Yadav and other legislators put a question mark on the intention of the government. Khanna, however, the government did not intend to harass anyone and justice would be done to the honourable member.
