Shahjahanpur (UP): An FIR has been registered against an impotent man and seven others for marrying a woman, the police said. The FIR contains the name of the husband of the woman. Superintendent of police (rural) Sanjeev Bajpayee said that the family of the girl married her off with great pomp, but when she reached her in-laws’ house she came to know that her husband was impotent.

The girl’s family gave the bridegroom Rs 10 lakh and other household items as gifts, Bajpayee said, adding that when she learnt that husband was impotent, she spoke about it to her sister-in-law but, instead of listening to her, she thrashed the newly-wed woman and threatened to kill her. He further said that the matter was being probed.
Sources in the police department said that such a case came up for the first time.
