Uttar PradeshCivil court orders registration of case on Jama Mosque in Budaun

Date:

Bareilly: Now that the court is hearing the petitions related to the Gyanvapi mosque in Varanasi, a civil court has ordered the registration of a case in connection with a mosque in Budaun. A petition filed by Akhil Bharatiya Hindu Mahasabha (ABHM) claimed that there was a fort of a former Hindu kind on the Jama Masjid complex in Budaun district of Uttar Pradesh. The structure of the mosque was built by demolishing an ancient temple of Neelkanth (Shiva).

While the court was hearing the petition, it sought a reply from the Intzamiya committee of Jama Masjid, UP Sunni Waqf Board, UP Archaeology Department, Union of India, UP government through the Budaun district magistrate and the chief secretary. The petition was filed on August 8. The Jama Mosque, located in Maulvi Tola area in Budaun, is the oldest and the largest of mosques in the country. It has the capacity to accommodate 23,000 devotees at a time.

According to some petitioners, Shamsuddin Iltutmish constructed the mosque in 1222 AD, which was mentioned in history books, but the ABHM said that the papers related to the ancient temple had been locked in a room in the mosque.
