In another gruesome incident, a 15-year-old girl was raped and set on fire. The girl who had been struggling for life at Saifai Medical College since October 8 died on Saturday night. It was a sixth incident of rape and murder in Uttar Pradesh in the past one month.
Etawah (UP): A 15-year-old girl who was raped and set afire succumbed to burns at Saifi Medical College Hospital in Etawah district of Uttar Pradesh on Saturday night, the police said on Monday. A relative of hers violated three months ago and, on October 6, when she complained of pain in her stomach, her mother took her to a community health centre where the doctors declared her pregnant.
The woman raised the issue with the mother and sister of the culprit and said that they would marry her with the man who had violated her. Nevertheless, on the night of October 8, the culprit set her afire, the police.
Immediately after that, the girl was taken to a hospital from where she was referred to the Saifai Medical College. The parents of the girl complained to the police that they had received threat calls from the culprit, which forced them to cremate the girl in Etawah. They could not take her body to the village where the girl was living.
Not only the culprit, his mother and sister also had hands in the killing of the girl. The police took the man and his mother into custody, but his sister is absconding.
This was the sixth incident of rape murder reported from Uttar Pradesh in the past one month. Two Dalit girls were gang-raped and murdered in Lakhimpur Kheri. Similarly, another Dalit girl who was raped and set afire in Pilibhit also died during treatment at a hospital in Lucknow last month.
