UP approved setting up eco-tourism board

Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh cabinet led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has given its nod for forming an eco-tourism development board, official sources said on Tuesday. The purpose of setting up the board is to create an environment to attract tourists. The Chief Minister will head the board and there will be ministers of ten departments in it.

According to tourism minister of the state, Jaiveer Singh, the decision to form the board was taken at a meeting presided over by Adityanath. Singh said that the board would take various steps to develop tourist spots across the state to attract domestic and international tourists. The minister said that the state had vast potential in the tourism sector because of its rich cultural heritage. Therefore, the board will take such steps to develop various sectors like tourism, forest, rural and urban areas, irrigation facilities, horticulture, sport and transport. Aside from the minister, the chief secretary will be its member secretary and specialists from prominent institutions will be part of it. The state has forest cover of 16, 582 sq km, 36 wildlife sanctuaries, 12 bird sanctuaries and nine eco-tourism circuits, the minister said. The state cabinet has also approved the starting of night safari in Lucknow’s Kukrail forest area. The night safari will be on 350 acres in Kukrail forest besides, the zoo park will be shifted there.
