Uttar Pradesh: The accused of the Pratapgarh public toilet rape case has been arrested. The Pratapgarh district police claims that the arrest was made on Monday.

In a horrific incident a woman was raped inside a public toilet that is located near the Pratapgarh railway station. The area falls under Kotwali police station and the rape took place on Saturday, 19 March.

The accused arrested by the police has been identified as one Anna aka Shubham Modwal. As per reports, he is a resident of the Kotwali area and was employed as a caretaker at the public toilet.

The case had shaken the community and raised concerns about the safety of females in public spaces. The woman had filed an FIR and reported to the police that she was waiting at the railway station since Friday night to catch a train to Ahmedabad.

In the wee hours of Saturday, while husband went to fetch refreshments, she went to the toilet and became the victim of the heinous crime. The accused ran away from the post after the incident.

The complaint was taken by the Kotwali Police officials, case was registered under Section 376 of IPC and the woman was taken for a medical examination.

In order to apprehend the accused, a joint team of Kotwali police and crime branch took action and the arrest was made near the Bhupiamau crossing in Pratapgarh.
