Lucknow: Nine people were killed and two injured on Friday when an under-construction wall caved in at Dilkusha in the Cantt area of the city because of heavy rain in the past three days, the police said. On getting information, the police and the officials of the district administration rushed to the spot.

As it bucketed down, several areas in the city were flooded. Rainwater entered many houses located in low-lying areas. According to reports, the district administration has ordered closure of all private and government schools.  

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed grief over the deaths of nine people and announced a compensation of Rs 4 lakh to the family members of those lost their lives in the incident. The Chief Minister directed the officials of the district administration to reach the site.

The who were killed were identified as Pradeep (28) and his wife Reshma (25), Dharmendra (28) and his wife Chanda (26), Pappu (50) and his Mankunwar Devi (45). There were two minors – Pradeep’s one-year-old daughter Naina and two minor boys, sons of Dharmendra. All of them were from Jhansi.

The police said when the incident occurred, they were sleeping in a hut which was adjacent to the wall of the under-construction building for which they were working.
