Mankameshwar temple in Lucknow introduces dress code for Rudrabhishek

Lucknow: If you wish to perform Rudrabhishek in the sanctum sanctorum of Mankameshwar temple in Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh, you have to wear a Dhoti and women have to wear a Sari. These are the norms that the temple authorities have introduced. Mankameshwar temple is the oldest Shiva temple in the state capital. The temple management committee says that this is the rule at the Mahakaleshwar temple in Ujjain, so everyone has to follow that.

According to the Mahant of Mankameshwar temple, Divyagiri, the same rules as followed at one religious place should be followed everywhere. According to sources, the story of Mankameshwar temple is associated with the Ramayana period. The legend has it that Lakshman, the king of Lakhanpur – as Lucknow was called on those days – worshiped Shiva on the banks of the Gomti that flows through the heart of the city. The temple was built later.
