Lucknow: The Lucknow police have taken an initiative to deal with the complaints of transgenders by setting up an all-women help desk on the premises of the Kaiserbagh police station in the state capital, sources said on Thursday. The desk will hear all kinds of complaints of the third gender and work them out.

Additional deputy commissioner of police (ADCP) Chiranjeevi Nath Sinha told media persons that five police personnel will be present at the cell round the clock. As most of the transgenders are more comfortable with women than men, only female personnel will handle their cases. According to Sinha, all those personnel have been sensitised to deal with the problems of the transgenders. Such an initiative was the first of its kind in the state. The purpose is to build confidence in the people of the third gender whose complaints are barely heard, the official said.
