New Delhi: The Central Government on Thursday appointed a 1987-batch IPS officer of Punjab cadre Dinkar Gupta as director general of the National Investigation Agency (NIA), according to an order issued by the Personnel Ministry.

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved Gupta’s appointment as the Director General, NIA till March 31, 2024, that is the date of his retirement, it said. The government also appointed Swagat Das as special secretary of Internal Security in the Home Ministry. He is a 1987-batch IAS officer of the Chhattisgarh cadre. He is working as special director in the Intelligence Bureau. He will hold the post of special secretary till November 30, 2024 which is the date of his superannuation, the order said.
