Amethi (UP): A Madrasa built on a piece of land meant for grazing has been razed to the ground in Amethi district of Uttar Pradesh, officials of the district administration said on Tuesday. The building was located in Gujar Tola village near the Tanda-Banda national highway in Gauriganj area where it had been in operation since 2009. There was a legal battle over the building in a local court.
According to sources, there was no academic work in the building in the past two years. According to district magistrate of Amethi Rakesh Kumar Mishra, the Madrasa was demolished on the ground of an order of the court, because the building was constructed on a piece of land meant for pasture. The district administration imposed a fine of Rs 2.24 lakh on the Madrasa owner.
A survey of the unrecognised Madrasas to get information about the number of teachers, curriculum, basic facilities available there and their affiliation with voluntary organisation is underway. The survey is being done after the state government issued an order in this regard. The government is also inquiring into the funds of these Madrasas.
