Government revoked the order issued for extension of his detention under PSA

Srinagar: Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Farooq Abdullah is set to walk free after being kept under preventive detention for more than seven months. The government, on Friday, revoked the order issued for extension of his detention under the Public Safety Act (PSA).

The National Conference (NC) leader along with former chief ministers Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti have been in confinement since August 5, 2019. In the following week, the central government abrogated sections of Article 370 of the Constitution and bifurcated the erstwhile state into Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh Union Territories.

In September, PSA was slapped on Farooq without a trial and his detention was stretched by another three months. He was charged with “disturbing public order” under the stringent law.
