Lucknow: A former Member of Parliament (MP) Umakant Yadav from Machhlishahr constituency in Jaunpur district of Uttar Pradesh and seven others have been awarded life term in connection with a 27-year-old triple murder case. A local court passed the order on Monday.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 5 lakh on the former MP. The incident of murder took place in February, 1995. Three persons, including two constables Ajay Singh, Lallan Singh and another person, were shot dead in a shooting. The MP and his cohorts tried to rescue Raj Kumar Yadav who was lodged in the lockup of Government Railway Police (GRP) at Shahganj in Jaunpur.

According to reports, a GRP constable posted in Shahganj GRP lodged an FIR after the incident saying that armed with rifle and pistol Yadav and his chums stormed the GRP post and tried to free Rajk Kumar from the lockup. The goons began to fire indiscriminately, killing three persons on the spot.
