Bijnor: An unidentified woman has allegedly tried to honey-trap and blackmail a former Member of Parliament (MP) of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from Bijnor district of Uttar Pradesh. The incident came to light on Friday when former MP Kunwar Bhartendra Singh lodged a complaint at the Najibabad police station, saying that the unidentified sought sexual favours from him through a video call.
In the complaint, he said that he had received multiple video calls from an unidentified person a few days ago, which he had disconnected, but the caller continued to do that. He then received a message on WhatsApp from the caller who identified herself as a woman and asked him to take the call. Singh further said that he had received some morphed pictures of his face, extracted from the call, with the woman. The woman began to blackmail him, threatening to make the picture viral on social media, Singh said. According to superintendent of police Dinesh Singh, a case has been registered on the grounds of the complaint made by Singh. The police are trying to trace the woman.

He further said that one should be careful about taking video calls from unidentified women. The women involved in the scam generally call up at night. Once someone takes such calls, he is exploited by gang members who extort money, the officer said.
