Rampur: Samajwadi Party MP Azam Khan from Rampur in Uttar Pradesh, along with wife Tanzin Fatima and son Abdullah Azam, surrendered in a special court in Rampur on Wednesday. The court has sent the three to judicial custody till March 2. Azam Khan appeared in court in several cases, including making two birth certificates for son Abdullah Azam Khan.

Azam Khan and his family have had a lot of lawsuits since the BJP-led Yogi Adityanath government formed in the state in 2017. It is being told that Azam Khan is currently being prosecuted for more than 80 cases. In many of these cases, the court ordered him to appear. Azam Khan continued to appear non-existent despite repeated orders to appear on behalf of the court. He filed a petition for anticipatory bail in the High Court but there was no relief from him.

Finally on Wednesday, Azam Khan along with his family surrendered in the court of ADJ 6 Dhirendra Kumar. Not only this, the court had also issued the arrest warrant in many cases to Azam Khan, his wife MLA Tanzin Fatima and son Abdullah Azam. The special court in Rampur has sent Azam Khan, his wife Tanzin Fatima and son Abdullah to jail for two days i.e. 7 days in judicial custody. The court had also ordered attachment of his house in a case on Tuesday. A case in Azam Khan is scheduled for hearing on March 2.

A heavy police force was deployed in the court premises during the surrender in Azam Khan’s court. During this time a large number of SP supporters were also present there. Earlier, the court of Special Judge ADJ6 had ordered attachment notice under section-82 against MP Azam Khan, MLA Tanzin Fatima and son Abdullah on 18 December for non-appearance in the court. Police raided his Rampur residence, but after not getting it, the police had pasted three attachment notices under Section 82.

In January 2019, BJP leader Akash Saxena wrote an FIR accusing Abdullah of fraudulently making two birth certificates, for which Azam Khan and his wife gave an affidavit giving false information. The police had filed a chargesheet in April 2019. Since then, the case in the court is under consideration. About 80 cases have been registered against MP Azam Khan so far. Attachment notices under Section 82 were issued against the court on Wednesday in two cases. One of them was a case of bullying of a neighbor and a violation of a code of conduct.
