62 percent do not have money to buy ration and medicine: Survey

Due to the ongoing lockdown in the country, 62.5 percent of the people of different groups said that they now have less than three weeks’ money left for essentials like ration / medicine. According to the Covid Trackers Index of Panic ‘survey, a total of 37.5 per cent people said that they are ready for these essentials for more than three weeks.

This figure is significant as the country is nearing the end of a 21-day lockdown to fight the Corona epidemic, and a consensus is forming between state governments to extend the lockdown for two more weeks. According to the survey, the situation of people with low income and education groups is worse. Where most people do not have sufficient funds available for ration, medicine etc. for more than three weeks in the ratio of 70:30.

There are two days left for the 21-day lockdown to end, but in the meantime, many states have announced to extend the lockdown. After Odisha and Punjab, now the KCR government of Telangana has also decided to extend the lockdown till April 30. Meanwhile, the patience of those trapped in the lockdown has started to break. In Surat, Gujarat, the migrant labourers created a ruckus yesterday ransacked and set fire to shops. They were demanding that they go to their respective homes. Today (April 12, Sunday) during the lockdown in Punjab’s Patiala, Nihangis chopped off a hand of a policeman while asking for a curfew pass.
