Ahmednagar is a city in the district of Ahmednagar that is located in the Maharashtra state in India. It is about 120 km northeast of Pune and 114 km from Aurangabad. Ahmednagar got its name from Ahmad Nizam Shah I. He started the town in 1494 on the location of a battlefield where he conquered a battle against superior Bahamani forces.
