Shri Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham has been set up by Sri Adi Sankara in the year 482 B.C. The peetham is located in Kanchipuram in Tamil Nadu, which is the city of thousands of temples. The peetham can be seen near a temple that is dedicated to Goddess Sri Kamakshi (in the forms of Durga, Kamakoti, Maha Tripurasundari) of the Shaktism tradition. It also has a temple for the Advaita Vedanta teacher Adi Shankara.
The peetham is also called Moolamnaaya Sarvagya Peetham. The spiritual gurus are descending from Sri Adi Shankara himself. The math follows Guru Parampara since 482 B.C. till date. The 70th Shankaracharya, Vijayendra Saraswati is the present Shankaracharyar of the math.
