Public transport must upgrade itself in the post-pandemic world

The public transportation sector has to revamp its facilities and pay more attention to hygiene and prevention of illnesses in the post coronavirus world. Hygiene and disease prevention wasn’t a part of the services thought by the public transportation industry so far, as its focus was majorly on comfort, coverage, and security. Hence, missing hygiene till the pre-coronavirus world was acceptable.

However, the transport sector has to undergo innovation for its sustainable development in the post-pandemic world. All sectors of transport have to chalk out plans to keep its people safe from diseases in the long run and think about sanitation and cleanliness at its core. No one expects such a crisis of coronavirus pandemic even in their wildest dreams and hence, public transport systems have to upgrade themselves as per the demand of the times and work collectively with their partners to adjust themselves to the new normal.

During the pandemic, it is being found that people hesitate to travel in public transport modes and prefer to go by a private vehicle, for those who can afford it. This has hit the infrastructure investment of public transportation badly, thus the industry should focus on supporting the health systems of its users.

So, in the post-pandemic world, we can expect sanitized rides via rental cars, trains, buses, and autorickshaws so that people who are more likely to fall prey to diseases will feel secured and comfortable in utilizing the services of public transportation. The authorities should be able to perform various permutations and combinations to understand how the prices of using the public transport systems don’t rise drastically for the services offered for safe and smooth travel along with ensuring that the industry also recovers from its losses and makes some sort of revenue in the coming years. As a commoner, we will have to only wait and watch what people are going to do to make travel safer in the coming years in the post-pandemic world.
