Pink City Jaipur: Know It’s History 

Jaipur aka Pink City is not just pink, but it is also India’s most colourful city. The city is a mash-up of Indian culture and contemporary experiences. It was intended to be designed in pink, as this is the colour of welcome. Tourists and locals alike are famed for their never-ending experiences in the city.

Pink city has its own distinct emotions and flavours that perfectly mix to provide a unique experience. Forts, museums, restaurants, monuments, shopping, and much more abound in Jaipur. It is always considered to experience the city as a tourist or a newcomer in the city.

History Of Pink City

When you arrive in Jaipur, you will see that most of the buildings have walls painted in a “pink” terracotta tint. The colour is reminiscent of the city’s history and culture. Going back in time, when Maharaja Sawai Ram Singh was in power and when Prince Albert visited Jaipur in 1876 as part of his India trip. The Maharaja wanted to impress the Prince, so he devised a bold tactic.

The Maharaja built a big music hall, which he called after the Prince Albert Hall Museum. Then he wanted to repaint the entire city to make it more attractive, and he chose terracotta pink to do it. In all weather situations, the colour remained vibrant.

The hue is associated with hospitality. Maharaja Sawai Ram Singh’s queen adored the hue and requested that it be made a law that every house in Jaipur be painted pink and that the use of any other colour be prohibited. The law was enacted in 1877 and is still in existence today.
