Lifestyle Desk – Kala Ghoda Arts Festival is all set to return in 2023 with a boom on February 4 till February 12. It is a yearly exhibition and celebration of cinema, dance, theatre, music, films, comedy, literature, and other art forms. It is a 9-day event organized by the Kala Ghoda Association and takes place in the Kala Ghoda area of South Mumbai.
It began in 1999 and has since become Mumbai’s largest multicultural festival. The event has massive engagement from art lovers, around 1.5 lakh art lovers attend this event.
The event’s main aim is to promote arts, crafts, and cultural heritage. Also, the funds raised from the festival every year are directed toward the restoration efforts undertaken by the Association.
It is celebrated across 14 sections – children, cinema, dance, food, heritage walks, literature, music, stalls, stand-up comedy, street, theatre, urban design and architecture, visual art, and workshops.
It also featured noticeable music acts – Spencer Maybe, Indus Creed, Benny Dayal, and Ustad Zakir Hussain.
For unaware, The name Kala Ghoda refers to the black stone statue of King Edward VII riding a horse. It was placed in this area of Mumbai but it was removed from the site in 1965 and sent to the Byculla Zoo.
