How to deal with last-minute travel changes

TravelHow to deal with last-minute travel changes

Date:

You might have booked a flight to Chennai and even booked a good 3-star hotel for your stay. Things were quite good till the departure date arrived. Just 8 hours before taking off, you are all ready and moving to go. You have done all the arrangements at home and suddenly you get a message from your friend that she has called off her wedding in Chennai (for which you were traveling) because some close family member passed away that day. The wedding dates are postponed to the next month and for her, it doesn’t matter because she is quite well-to-do and will get all her stuff done again.

But for you, the trip really hit your pocket. Now if you postpone your tickets, you will have to pay a penalty and are not going to get a good deal. Moreover, you have already paid advance to the hotel that doesn’t refund its customers for last-day changes. So, what do you do in such a fixed situation? Do you remove all the clothes from the bags and sit crying as you lost a good amount of money and are not traveling? Or you will change your approach here and still continue your trip to Chennai.

Well, the second option looks good to me because it teaches you wise lessons to be going on your trip despite the last-minute changes. You can simply visit Chennai, board your hotel, stay there for a few days and even visit your friend whose wedding got called off and give her the advance gift. She wouldn’t mind if you tell her your genuine reasons. You can use the remaining days to check out the various attractions that are nearby your hotel and also get some good darshan from the many temples out there.

When you return, you will be happy because you spent quality time on your trip, did whatever you wanted to, and also didn’t cancel the office leaves that you had applied for. Yes, you won’t be a part of your friend’s wedding the next month, but don’t you think that is fine considering she has met you and also got her wedding gift in advance? You can still video call her on the wedding day and tell her how lovely she looks and blesses her with a good marital life. This is how you manage the last-minute changes that happen during your travel plans instead of panicking over what is beyond your control.

Last-minute changes happen at any time during the travel journey. Say, you booked a car and that car didn’t turn up and you were getting late for the meeting that you had scheduled as soon as you reached the destination. You need not panic or cancel the meeting but use your presence of mind to book another cab or get the local taxi or auto or a lift from a passer-by and pay him for the ride. If you think rationally and logically, things will fall into place and nothing will appear ruined.
