For unaware, Netflix has been working on stopping the password-sharing business for several months now.
Password sharing has been an issue for Netflix as their revenue fell earlier this year and the platform lost subscribers for the first time in 10 years. Netflix CEO Reed Hastings said that the company will crack down on password sharing soon.
According to the report, Netflix will soon disable the option to share passwords with anyone. And if you share your Netflix password then the person will need to pay a fee to use the profile. This means one can not use their friend’s Netflix profile without paying.
Netflix has been testing the new password-sharing option in Costa Rica, Chile, Peru, and some more Latin American countries. In this, Netflix is charging $3 (Rs 250 approx) for people who use their friend’s Netflix profile.
The company has not revealed how much it will charge per head in India.
Moreover, Netflix is trying to increase its subscriber base, and they recently introduced a new affordable ad-supported plan at $6.99 in the United States. For India, Netflix offers four plans – a mobile-only plan at a price of Rs 149, a basic plan priced at Rs 199, a standard plan priced at Rs 499, and a premium plan priced at Rs 649.
