Ahead of the dark afternoon of WhatsApp outage on Tuesday; the company has been asked to submit a report to understand the reason for this outage. The downtime had a huge impact on users in India and other countries.
WhatsApp is on the government’s radar and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology is looking into the matter and has requested Meta to submit a report on the cause.
The report once created will need to be submitted to ICERT, the nodal cybersecurity department under the government. The App abruptly stopped working for thousands of people on Tuesday afternoon and it took two hours to be back to normal.
The outage though lasted only two hours had a deep impact on the country affecting users and WhatsApp business accounts. Users felt helpless as they were not able to send or receive messages. The WhatsApp video calls and voice calls were not functioning.
Meta did not share much details about the cause of this service interruption and just mentioned that it happened due to a technical error on their end. However, the government is vigilant and wants to understand what the cause of this could be.
With the growing frauds and scams in the country, the IT Ministry has been taking various initiatives and a close eye on all important developments and incidents related to tech giants. Apart from these, the data protection bill and other crucial discussions evidently prove the seriousness of the matter and how the government is acting upon this.
