ISRO released the picture of Phobos captured by the Mars Colour Camera (MCC) onboard ISRO’s Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM) ‘Mangalyaan.’

Phobos is the closest and biggest moon of Mars. The image was taken on July 1 when Mangalyaan was about 7,200 km from Mars and 4,200 km from Phobos, the spatial resolution of the image is 210 m.

As per the researchers, Phobos is believed to be made up of carbonaceous chondrites.

MOM was initially calculated to last for six months but the ISRO scientists said that there is enough fuel for it to run for years.

India entered the elite club of space missions on September 24, 2014, after it successfully placed the Mangalyaan spacecraft in orbit around Mars, in its very first attempt.
