Dehradun. A 10-member team of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) is conducting search and rescue operations for a missing climber on the Trishul mountain in Chamoli district.
The missing climber is a native of Hungary and was reportedly hit by an avalanche. Chamoli District Magistrate Swati Bhadoria said that the NDRF team along with the local forest ranger had already reached the base camp. The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) was informed of the rescue mission on Monday; They will send their high-altitude specialist for operation on Tuesday.
According to information provided by the SDRF, the missing climber has been identified as Peter Wittek. He is part of a six-member Singapore-Vietnamese-Hungarian-Mauritius expedition that was planning to trek to Mount Trishul. The Hungarian climber reportedly went missing from the camp.
DM Bhadoria said, “We got information about the missing mountaineer from the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO). Shortly thereafter, the rescue teams were informed of which route they plan to go, as they are three possible routes. By then we came to know that they took Sutoli route, which is located near the ghat and the base camp is just a few kilometers from there. NDRF’s 10-man team along with local forest rangers is already out for search and rescue missions.
