The 13th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), one of the world’s richest T20 leagues due to Corona virus, has been postponed indefinitely. All kinds of things about the conduct of IPL are revealed daily, now in such a situation a new formula has come out regarding the conduct of IPL matches towards KKR. Kolkata Knight Riders CEO Venky Mysore recommends this T20 league be held in only two cities.
The idea was, in fact, discussed during an IPL meeting in March before the country went into the lockdown mode. Pune and Mumbai emerged as the two cities which could host the entire season due to the number of cricketing venues they have.
Mysore, speaking to ESPNCricinfo’s StumpMic podcast, pointed out that a similar model was opted for in 2014 when Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah hosted first 20 matches before the tournament moved back to India. Similarly, IPL can take place at the Brabourne Stadium, Wankhede Stadium and the MCA Stadium this year.
“We did this in the UAE – we played in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah. There were no flights, just buses that were taking players back and forth. If we were to think of something like that, the idea that was tossed around was what if you think of a city like Mumbai. There are already four grounds here if you include the Reliance Ground. And if you think about Pune, which is only two and a half hours away, you could easily contain the whole activity,” he said.
