Semifinal match could not be played due to rain
Sydney: The semi-final match of the ICC T20 Women’s World Cup between India and England was canceled today due to rain. With this, the Indian team has reached the final of the tournament. In fact, she topped Group-A, which benefited her and she managed to reach the final for the first time. They will take on the winner of the second semi-final in Melbourne on 8 March.
It is noteworthy that it was raining continuously in Sydney. The match could not be tossed due to this. As per ICC rules, the cut-off time of the match toss was kept at 11:06 am, but before that the match was declared canceled.
Significantly, Cricket Australia (CA) CEO Kevin Roberts said that the Cricket Association had requested the ICC to hold Reserve Day for the semi-finals but the ICC denied any change in the playing conditions of the tournament. In such a situation no Reserve Day has been kept.
According to the rules, if the semi-final match is canceled due to rain or if both the teams of the match are unable to play at least 10–10 overs, then the top team of their group will get the final ticket. Accordingly, India qualified for the finals. In fact, Team India topped Group A with 8 points, while South Africa is in first place in Group B with 7 points.
