India’s star female archer Deepika Kumari created history in the ongoing Archery World Cup in Paris. Deepika Kumari, who won three gold medals in the third edition of the World Cup, on Monday again topped the world rankings.
The 27-year-old from Ranchi had achieved the number one ranking for the first time in 2012. On Sunday, she won gold medals in three recurve events – women’s individual, team and mixed doubles.
World Archery tweeted after Deepika’s stellar performance, “This will take Deepika to the number one position in the world rankings on Monday.” Dipika first won the gold medal in the recurve team event with Ankita Bhagat and Komolika Bari defeating Mexico 5-1.
Thereafter, in the final of the mixed team event, the fifth seeded pair of Dipika and her husband Atanu Das came back from a 0-2 loss to Jeff Van den Bergh and Gabriella Scholeser of the Netherlands to win 5-3.
Deepika completed a hat-trick of gold medals in a single day by defeating Elena Osipova of Russia 6-0 in the final of the women’s individual recurve event. Deepika has so far won nine gold, 12 silver and seven bronze medals in the World Cup.
