Rahul Gandhi said on Thursday that the Congress will name a chief ministerial candidate for the upcoming Punjab Assembly Election 2022, after both Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi and Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu urged Rahul Gandhi to name a chief ministerial candidate ahead of the polls. However, Rahul Gandhi stated that the choice will have to be made by the party’s workers.

As asked by Channi ji, Sidhu ji, the people of Punjab, and the Congress workers in Punjab, Rahul Gandhi took to Twitter to announce that a CM face would be announced shortly.

Most people voted for Channi as the CM face in a recent Twitter poll sponsored by Rahul Gandhi’s assistant Nikhil Alva. While Channi received 68.7% of the vote, Sidhu received 11.5 percent, and Sunil Kumar Jakhar received 9.3 percent of the vote. A total of 10% of votes were cast in favour of the party’s decision to have no CM face.
