Punjab Assembly Election: The Congress laid out the ‘chronology’ of Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi’s nephew Bhupinder Singh alias Honey’s detention in four points on Friday. The BJP’s ‘Election department,’ the ED (Enforcement Directorate), has been deployed just 15 days before the election, according to party spokesman Randeep Singh Surjewala, because PM Modi is facing a defeat in Punjab.

While the people of Punjab are paying a price for supporting the farmers’ protest, the BJP is praising ‘Chote Modi’ Kejriwal, who also notified the farm rules, with the ‘false raid and arrest.’
Surjewala claimed that assaulting Channi by digging up his nephew’s six-year-old case and targeting Sidhu in a 33-year-old case are both expressions of support for Kejriwal.
Mallikarjun Kharge, a Congress politician, called the detention a political stunt intended to put pressure on the government. “If action against someone had to be taken, it should have been done over a period of 4-5 months rather than in a single day. It’s being done for a specific reason. They aim to harass and demoralise Channi since he is a Scheduled Caste CM “Kharge explained.
SAD leader Bikram Majithia reacted to the arrest by saying, “All this money belongs to Channi, and Honey is only Channi’s treasurer.” “There are three things in this storey: money, honey, and Channi.” Money was seized first, then Honey was detained, and now it’s Channi’s turn,” Majithia explained.
“Channi managed to perform wonders in 111 days,” AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal stated. It takes 4 to 5 years for people to become corrupt. It is regrettable. People are paying attention, and Punjab needs a trustworthy administration.”
The ED raided Honey Singh’s home on January 18 and recovered ten crore rupees. In 2018, a case of unlawful sand mining was filed, however Honey’s name was not included in the FIR.

Honey’s arrest comes only days before Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is expected to declare his party’s chief ministerial candidate. Channi is reported to be ahead of Punjab Congress president Navjot Singh Sidhu in a tight race for the top seat. The arrest of Honey, on the other hand, may throw the calculations off.
